Linking Generations Through Communication Since 1948
For more than 75 years, Heuser Hearing Institute has been helping individuals and families overcome hearing, speech, language and communication challenges. As the only nonprofit organization in the Greater Louisville and Southern Indiana region providing comprehensive hearing, speech, language and balance services alongside specialized education and statewide outreach programs, we are committed to ensuring that every person has access to the resources they need to communicate, connect and thrive.
What began in 1948 as the Louisville Deaf Oral School has grown into a multifaceted organization serving children, adults, families and communities throughout Kentucky. Today, Heuser Hearing Institute brings together clinical care, education and outreach to provide support at every stage of life.
Our Mission
Heuser Hearing Institute strives to empower our neighbors across Kentucky to connect, communicate and thrive. We make this a reality by offering accessible hearing healthcare, communication support and education.
Our Vision
We have an overarching goal of serving as Kentucky’s trusted lifelong partner for hearing healthcare and learning, ensuring every individual has access to the services and support they need to reach their full potential.
How We Serve Our Community
Heuser Hearing Clinic
Our Hearing Clinic provides comprehensive hearing, balance and speech-language services for patients of all ages. From diagnostic testing and hearing aid technology to tinnitus management, cochlear implants, speech therapy and balance evaluations, our team helps patients find answers, treatment and ongoing support. Our experienced audiologists and specialists work together to deliver personalized care that improves quality of life and strengthens communication.
Heuser Hearing & Language Academy
For children with hearing loss, speech and language disorders and communication challenges, early support can make a lifelong difference.
Since 1948, Heuser Hearing & Language Academy has provided specialized education and early intervention services designed to help children develop communication skills, confidence and independence. Our nationally recognized preschool and kindergarten programs combine individualized instruction, small class sizes, family involvement and a language-rich learning environment that prepares students for lifelong success.
KY HEARS
Through KY HEARS (Hearing Healthcare Equal Access Statewide), Heuser Hearing Institute is expanding access to hearing healthcare across Kentucky, particularly in rural and underserved communities. Using mobile clinics, community partnerships, hearing screenings, diagnostic services, educational programs and resource connections, KY HEARS helps individuals receive the care and support they need closer to home.
Created to address hearing healthcare gaps throughout the Commonwealth, KY HEARS extends Heuser’s mission beyond Louisville and helps ensure more Kentuckians can access quality hearing care, regardless of location.
