  • Laura Azahar

  • Laura Azahar

    Laura started at Heuser as a substitute teacher in 2016 and then worked as an instructional assistant for Katie Fromholt from 2016-2018. She fell in love with teaching the deaf and in 2018 decided to go back to school for her Master of Arts in early intervention deaf education at Fontbonne University at St. Louis, Missouri. She was an Interprofessional Preparation of Early Interventionists Scholar, which is part of a grant given by the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (H325K17008). Her program concentrated on working alongside speech language pathologists to prepare her to work with other professionals in the field of deaf education. Her program also has prepared her to work as an early interventionist by serving families of children who are deaf and hard of hearing. Laura’s next professional goal is to work for First Steps in Kentucky. 

    One of Laura’s passions is to travel. In the summer of 2019, she attended the A.G. Bell International Symposium in Madrid, Spain. She also went to Kansas City, Missouri in the spring of 2020 to the National Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Conference, where she presented a poster based on a learning project, “Communication Development in Children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing Through Misunderstandings in Parent Interactions.” Laura also enjoys spending time with her Jack Russell mix, Max.

  • Brett Bachmann

    J.D. LL.M

    Brett Bachmann has served as Heuser Hearing Institute’s President and CEO since 2013. He received his Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State University, his Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University School of Law and his Master of Laws from The Strauss Institute of Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine School of Law. He also studied international mediation in London and The Hague and received his certificate from The Geoffrey H. Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law.

    Before joining the HHI team, he founded a law firm specializing in education law in Los Angeles, litigated pro bono cases as the Associate Director of Pepperdine’s Special Education Law Clinic, co-founded the Louisville Film Arts Institute and established its relationship with Jefferson County Public Schools, and founded the International Commission of Peace (ICOP), a non-profit organization that provides alternative dispute resolution training to prevent war-torn countries from relapsing into wide-spread violence.

    Since coming to HHI, Brett has overseen the doubling of the size of the Heuser Hearing and Language Academy and created a unique program where the school’s deaf and hard of hearing students learn alongside their hearing peers, creating a richer educational experience. He has also focused on expanding HHI’s reach as Louisville’s only nonprofit hearing center with the expansion to five clinic locations in Louisville and Southern Indiana and increasing the number of patients treated.

  • Sara Banks

    Sara joined the team at Heuser Hearing & Language Academy in February 2020. She is a Louisville native and attended JCTC for medical coding/billing. Before joining Heuser, she worked at Avada Hearing Care, Humana, Spectrum and most recently Chick-fil-A.  She has 3 amazing kids that keep her hopping with all of their activities.

  • Todd Banks

    Todd comes to Heuser with a wealth of experience in customer service, I.T., project management, sales and the healthcare industry.  Working at Heuser has allowed Todd to fulfill his desire to serve the community and others through servant-based leadership.  As a member of the facilities team, Todd works hard to make sure Heuser is safe, clean, functional and organized. He is a father and husband who when not at work, enjoys spending his time swimming, running, relaxing with his family and traveling across the U.S. to amusement parks.

  • Angie Beach

    Au.D., CCC-A

    Dr. Angie Beach completed her master’s degree in audiology at the University of Louisville in 1999 and her Doctor of Audiology from A.T. Still University in 2012. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is licensed to practice audiology in Kentucky and Indiana as well as work as a hearing instrument specialist in Kentucky. Prior to working at Heuser Hearing Institute, she worked in the private practice setting primarily with adults with hearing and balance issues. Angie joined the Heuser Hearing Institute team in 2006 and works with both the pediatric and adult populations.

  • Jessica Bishop

    Au.D., CCC-A

    Dr. Jessica Bishop obtained her bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders and a minor in psychology from Florida State University. She earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of South Alabama in May 2021. She currently holds her ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A). Prior to joining the Heuser team, Dr. Bishop worked as a clinical audiologist at a private practice in Virginia. Her clinical interests include auditory processing disorders, hearing aids and cochlear implants. In her free time, she is excited to learn more about the city of Louisville and can be found cooking, exploring the outdoors, or attending a Louisville Bats game.

  • Robin Brents

    Robin recently moved back to Louisville after living in Jacksonville, Florida for the past 30 years. She has a daughter, son and grandson who is the love of her life. She loves sunflowers, having fun and making memories!

  • Abigail Bridenbecker

    AuD., CCC-A, F-AAA, PASC

    Abigail Bridenbecker is a Doctor of Audiology with four years of experience. She holds degrees from Baylor University and Gallaudet University and completed an externship at the University of Illinois Chicago Health Sciences Systems, specializing in Cochlear Implants, Hearing Aids, and Tinnitus management. She is ASHA-certified and trained in advanced audiology techniques.

    Abigail’s passion for audiology began with a childhood friendship that inspired her commitment to improving communication access. She combines clinical expertise and research to provide tailored care for pediatric and adult patients.

    One of her key achievements is founding a cochlear implant program. Abigail lives on a 10-acre hobby farm with her family, pets, and individuals with special needs. In her free time, she enjoys creating art, long walks, and spending time with loved ones, bringing her warmth and enthusiasm to all aspects of her life.

  • Allison Cardwell

    Allison graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Her minor in ASL unlocked a passion for audiology, and she is now a third-year graduate student completing her Doctorate in Audiology.

    Allison’s enjoys audiology because it allows her to combine her love of science and problem solving with genuine one-on-one patient connections. Allison also has a special interest in animal audiology, and she has even traveled to South Africa to complete research on Elephant and Rhino hearing! When she is not at work, Allison enjoys baking, spending time with her dog and road trips to visit friends and family.
